Before the action in the 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, March 9, there was a display of cricket diplomacy. The occasion marked 75 years of the relationship between the two countries, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese were the special guests at the world’s biggest cricket stadium.

Ravi Shastri hosted a mini ceremony that included the two Prime Ministers and the two team captains before the toss.

During the ceremony, PM Modi presented Rohit Sharma with a special Test cap, while PM Anthony presented Steve Smith with a new Baggy Green. The Indian Prime Minister then urged them all to pose for photographers with raised arms.

After the toss was done, PM Modi and PM Anthony joined the two teams during the national anthems. Captain Rohit Sharma introduced all the India players to PM Modi, while Steve Smith did the same to PM Anthony.

Smith won the toss and opted to bat first, giving Australia an early advantage in the game. India made only one change to their XI, resting Mohammed Siraj and bringing back Mohammed Shami. The visiting camp showed confidence by going in with an unchanged XI.

WPL 2023: Sophia Dunkley, Ash Gardner power Gujarat Giants to their first victory of the season; Twitter react

The sixth match of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 took place at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, where the Gujarat Giants (GG) faced off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

After winning the toss, the Giants chose to bat first and started off strong. Harleen Deol played a crucial innings, scoring 67 runs off 45 balls, with 9 fours and 1 six. However, it was Sophia Dunkley who stole the show, smashing 65 runs off just 28 balls, including 11 fours and 3 sixes. With the help of some late hitting by the lower order, the Giants finished their innings with a massive total of 201-7 in 20 overs. Shreyanka Patil was the pick of the bowlers for RCB, taking 2 wickets for 32 runs.

In response, RCB started off well, with Sophie Devine leading the charge with a brilliant innings of 66 runs off 45 balls, featuring 8 fours and 2 sixes. But, Bangalore lost wickets at regular intervals, and despite a quickfire knock of 30 not out off 11 balls from Heather Knight, they could only manage to reach a total of 190-6 in their allotted 20 overs. Ashleigh Gardner was the standout bowler for the Giants, picking up 3 wickets for 31 runs.

In the end, it was Gujarat who emerged victorious, winning the match by 11 runs. Dunkley was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for smashing the fastest half-century in the tournament. The Giants’ win have opened their account in the WPL 2023 points table, while the Smriti Mandhana-led RCB remain at bottom.

Anil Kumble, Parthiv Patel pick the future Indian stars ahead of IPL 2023

Anil Kumble, Parthiv Patel

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is considered the toughest T20 tournament globally. The 20-over competition is an exclusive destination where the world’s most admirable cricketers play under one roof. Further, IPL has always been a major platform for young cricketers to showcase their talent as they share the change room with the best in the business and get trained by top-quality coaches.

The cash-rich league has also emerged as the most expensive tournament in the history of cricket, with many cricketers bagging multi-million-dollar deals. Over the years, IPL has given top Indian players such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shubman Gill. Now, as the 16th edition is just around the corner, a panel discussion was organised by Jio Cinema, which featured the likes of Chris Gayle, Anil Kumble, Parthiv Patel, Robin Uthappa, Scott Styris, and Aakash Chopra, where the former players gave their opinion regarding who can be the emerging star of IPL 2023.

Kumble, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper, reckoned that Arshdeep Singh and Ishan Kishan have all the potential to become the next superstars in Indian cricket.

“Having worked closely with someone like Arshdeep Singh, it’s wonderful to see him grow into what he has done for India. I would love to see Arshdeep as the next superstar bowler coming through, and from the batting perspective, Ishan Kishan is wonderful with the opportunities he has got, so he is someone whom I think can be a superstar,” said Kumble.

Notably, Arshdeep has proven his skills in both IPL and India. During the 2022 T20 World Cup, the left-armer took 10 wickets in six matches and finished as India’s highest wicket-taker.

Like Kumble, former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv also listed out his choice. The Gujarati cricketer went with fast bowling sensation Umran Malik and Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Verma as the next big thing.

“Umran Malik. Someone who is quick and bowling well, and he has already played for India, but yeah, I think he can be a superstar. Batting wise, having seen Tilak Verma in a couple of years. I had the opportunity to scout and back him and a kind of a cricketer he has become. He also has an ability to lead a side, so I think he can be a future leader,” said Parthiv.

Speaking about the lucrative league, the 16th season will begin from March 31, with defending champions Gujarat Titans taking on Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener.

WPL 2023 [WATCH]: Humaira Kazi hit the bull’s-eye to dismiss Ellyse Perry in MI vs RCB clash

Mumbai Indians (MI) faced Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the fourth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium on Monday (March 6) and registered a dominating nine-wicket win in the contest.

Electing to bat first, RCB got off to a convincing start with their openers adding 39 runs for the first wicket. But after the dismissal of Sophie Devine (16), RCB kept on losing their batters at regular intervals and got bundled out at an average score of 155 in 18.4 overs.

Well, the turning point of RCB’s innings was the dismissal of Ellyse Perry, who was batting on 13 with a strike rate of 185.71. Perry fell victim to Humaira Kazi’s sensational direct hit into the stumps.

On the first ball of the 9th over, Perry attempted a cut towards the backward point off Saika Ishaque’s delivery. However, Nat Sciver-Brunt showcased a brilliant fielding effort and stopped the ball inside the third-yard circle.

The Australian all-rounder Perry charged up for a single but was sent back by Richa Ghosh at the other end. Between this, Humaira quickly collected the white leather and initiated a rocket arm throw towards the keeper’s end that eventually crashed into the stumps. Perry had to return to the pavilion as she was found well short of her crease.

Here’s the video:

Richa (28) eventually turned out to be the top scorer for the Smriti Mandhana-led side.

As far as the result of the match is concerned, Harmanpreet Kaur captained MI chased down the set target with ease and thrashed RCB by nine wickets. Hayley Matthews scored a fiery 77 off 38 balls for her team. Hayley had also picked three wickets for MI during the RCB’s first innings and was, therefore, adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for her all-around performance.

While this was the second consecutive win for the Mumbai-based team in the inaugural WPL, RCB have lost both the games they played in the tournament so far.

South African legend AB de Villiers names his greatest T20 player of all time

Ab de Villiers picks his greatest T20 player

Legendary South African cricketer AB de Villiers was nothing but an absolute genius. His adroit batting technique, implausible power-hitting, and aptitude to innovate fresh shots made him one of the most supremely gifted batters of the 21st century.

De Villiers was reckoned one of the finest batters of the shortest format. He has played in several T20 tournaments, such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), and shared changerooms with quite a few global superstars like Virat Kohli. But who, according to the former South African skipper, is the greatest T20 player?

Well, De Villiers has recently revealed his choice, and interestingly, he didn’t go with Kohli or Chris Gayle. Rather, the Pretoria-born cricketer went with Afghanistan superstar Rashid Khan as the greatest player in the shortest format.

The former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star reasoned his pick, stating that Rashid delivers in all three departments of the sport, i.e. batting, bowling and fielding. De Villiers observed that the Afghanistan spin sensation is pretty much competitive and always wants to win.

“My greatest T20 player of all time is none other than Rashid Khan. He delivers with bat and ball. Match winner in both departments; he is a livewire in the field and has got the heart of a lion. He always wants to win; he’s very competitive, and he’s right there with one of the best T20 players. Not one of the best, the best,” said De Villiers while speaking to SuperSport.

Notably, Rashid is a proven match-winner, irrespective of where he plays. The ace spinner is the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of T20s and is only behind West Indies superstar Dwayne Bravo. The top-quality leg-spinner, who is known for his pace through the air and deceptive variations, has taken 514 wickets from 382 matches at a tremendous average of 18.17.

Ahead of the last IPL edition, Rashid was roped in by Gujarat Titans. The leggie picked up 19 wickets during the season, helping Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat clinch the title.

‘Champions always find a way’: Ricky Ponting opines on Virat Kohli’s nightmarish Test form

Ricky Ponting, Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is struggling to make an impact in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having been unable to leave his mark in the first three matches of the India versus Australia series. While some experts believe that it is only a matter of time before he returns to form, others are concerned about the longevity of his failures.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has also commented on Kohli’s performance, stating that the difficult pitches in the series have made it challenging for all batsmen, with uneven bounce proving to be a significant factor. Despite this, Ponting praised the Australian team for their incredible comeback in the Indore Test, which ultimately led to their victory by nine wickets.

“I am not looking at anybody’s form in the series because for batters it has been an absolute nightmare. Australia have done a remarkable job by turning around those first two Test matches and coming back to win the third. We all know batting has been so incredibly difficult. And it has not been because of the turn, but also the uneven bounce which makes you lose trust in the wicket and if that happens you are guessing all the time which makes batting really difficult,” Ponting said while speaking to ICC.

Following this, Ponting highlighted Kohli’s poor run of form in Test said and said the former India captain would be well aware of his situation and “will bounce back soon”.

“For Kohli, I have said that over and over, champion players always find a way. He might be in a bit of a drought at the moment, might be not scoring runs which we all expect him to score but he is a realist as well. When you are a batsman and your are struggling and not scoring runs, you are pretty aware of that yourself. I am not concerned about this because I am confident he will bounce back,” added the Aussie legend.

“But as captain he was lost”: Shoaib Akhtar uses Sachin Tendulkar’s example to praise Virat Kohli

Shoaib Akhtar, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli

The comparison of modern-day master Virat Kohli with legendary Sachin Tendulkar is not new. Pakistan’s veteran fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar also did something similar in an interview where he lauded Virat and opined that he regards Sachin as the best batter in the world, but at the same time admitted that the ‘Master Blaster’ looked lost as a captain to him.

In a discussion on Suno News, Akhtar revealed the reason behind his constant praise of Virat and compared the latter to Sachin to justify his point. The 47-year-old veteran pacer said that the 34-year-old former India captain had been both a great skipper and batter, while Sachin looked lost as a leader of the Indian side.

“See, I believe Sachin Tendulkar is the best batsman in the world. But as a captain, he was lost. He left the captaincy himself. I was talking to one of my friends about Virat Kohli, and we were discussing the same thing. He was lost, and when he works on his mind, he will perform. When his mind became free, he ruled the T20 World Cup,” said Akhtar

The Rawalpindi express further praised Kohli for his batting and added: “You also need to look that almost 40 centuries from Kohli came in run chases. Log kehte hain tum Virat ki bohot tareef karte ho, main kehta hu kaise naa karu? (People tell me that you praise Virat Kohli a lot. I just say, why shouldn’t I do that?) During one stage, India used to win because of Virat’s hundreds.”

Notably, Tendulkar captained India in 98 matches and led the team to victory in 27 of them, while Kohli won 64 matches out of 140 as India’s skipper with a win percentage of 45.71. As far as the batting record is concerned, the Delhi cricketer recently entered the elite list of most international runs, which the 49-year-old former Mumbai cricketer owns.

Virat will next be seen in action in the fourth and final Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023, starting on Thursday, March 9.

‘That opportunity might not come around again’: Ricky Ponting makes big statement on David Warner’s statement

David Warner, Ricky Ponting

David Warner, the Australian opener, had to leave the team midway through the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to an injury he sustained during the second Test against India in Delhi.

Despite being a successful player, Warner has faced challenges in his international career. According to former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, Warner should have retired after his double century in his 100th Test match in December 2022. Ponting’s statement suggests that Warner’s career could have been considered complete and successful had he retired after that match.

“Look, I was on radio a couple of days ago, back here in Australia, and I thought the absolute best time for Davey to retire if he was thinking about it at all, was after the Sydney Test match here in Australia. He had just played his 100th Test in Melbourne and obviously got 200 in the first innings down there. And to bow out in front of his home crowd is obviously the way that every player would like to finish their careers,” Ponting told The ICC Review.

Before his 254-ball double century against South Africa in December, Warner went 15 Test matches without scoring a hundred. In fact, he failed to score 20 runs or more in his last three Test matches, including the first two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Unfortunately, Warner sustained an elbow injury during the first innings of the second Test match in Delhi and had to withdraw from the tour. Despite this setback, Aussie legend Ponting believes the selectors would prefer to send Warner to England for the 2021-23 World Test Championship final in June.

“I think they’ll definitely want to play him in the World Test Championship match. They have got some really big decisions to make, leading into the Ashes [in England] as well. A bit like some of the selection issues they had coming to India. They’re probably going to have similar things to think about when they get to the UK because David’s record in the UK is not as strong as it is in some other places around the world. But I don’t think it’s the end of David Warner, I think they’ll bring him back for that one game. If he does well there, then I think he’ll probably start the Ashes and see from there,” added Ponting.

With 8,158 runs in 103 Test matches for Australia, Warner’s experience and skillset are still valuable assets to the Australia team.

“Forger Bumrah. Leave him…”: Madan Lal backs Umesh Yadav to feature in India’s squad for WTC Final

Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav

Jasprit Bumrah, the star Indian fast bowler, is expected to remain sidelined for an extended period due to his recurring back injury. As a result, he will not be participating in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) and may also miss the World Test Championship final, assuming India qualifies.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Madan Lal has suggested that India should focus on other options and consider taking Umesh Yadav instead of Bumrah to the WTC final, which is scheduled to be held at The Oval from June 7-11.

Umesh recently demonstrated his impressive form in the Indore Test against Australia. He replaced Mohammad Shami in India’s playing XI and delivered a remarkable performance, claiming three wickets in Australia’s first innings with his fiery spell of fast bowling.

“They will take Umesh [to WTC final]. There you need at least 3 pacers so, only one spinner might play and the rest will be fast bowlers. Bumrah ko ab bhool jao. Usko chhor dijiye aap (Forget Bumrah. Leave him out of the equation). When Bumrah returns, we will see then. Use whatever you have. What is the guarantee? No wonder when he will return – maybe in 1 to 1.5 years. He has not played in so long. It means his injury is very serious,” said Lal while speaking to Sports Tak.

Before the Asia Cup last year, Bumrah suffered a stress fracture on his lower back. Despite his return to the Indian team for the home T20Is against Australia in September 2022, the fast bowler was forced to withdraw from the T20 World Cup in Australia due to the recurrence of the same injury.

Although Bumrah was scheduled to return to the India team during the ODI series against Sri Lanka in January, he was again ruled out due to the injury. On the eve of the opening ODI, the BCCI announced that Bumrah would not participate in the 50-over series as he needed additional time to regain his bowling resilience. Consequently, he went to the NCA for rehabilitation.

Lal believes that if the Indian team wants to see Bumrah at his best, the speedster should be given adequate time to recover.

“At max, an injury takes three months to heal, and he hasn’t played since September – even Hardik Pandya was able to return in 4 months post his back surgery – and Bumrah hasn’t played since 6 months. So, how can you expect that this will be the same Bumrah that we have seen so far? It will take him time. If you want to see the same Bumrah, you will have to give him time,” added Lal.

“Anyone can score in Chinnaswamy”: Gautam Gambhir slams AB de Villiers’ IPL record

Gautam Gambhir and AB de Villiers

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is just around the corner, and fans couldn’t keep calm to witness the 16th edition of the league. It is their excitement only that they are sharing their favourite moments from the league on social media and are rating players on the basis of their performance in the tournament so far. Many players themselves have also come out and shared their experiences of playing in the world’s biggest and richest league.

While many cricket enthusiasts consider AB de Villiers to be one of the greatest to play IPL, India’s veteran opener Gautam Gambhir doesn’t think so. Gambhir has made a statement on Star sports ahead of the IPL 2023 and said that de Villiers played for personal records and anybody can score runs easily at the Chinnaswamy, which is the home ground of the team the latter has represented for a decade in IPL.

“AB de Villiers only had personal records in the IPL. Anybody could have scored runs in Chinnaswamy stadium,” said Gambhir.

Notably, de Villiers was part of the Delhi Daredevils ( now Delhi Capitals) and Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) team from 2007-2021 in IPL and recently took retirement from the league. The South African star was part of DC from 2008 to 2010 before joining RCB in 2011. However, fans didn’t seem to like Gambhir’s criticism of ‘Mr 360′ and trolled the 41-year-old veteran Delhi cricketer by comparing his stats with the former.

As far as Gambhir’s and de Villiers’ records in Bengaluru are concerned, the former Proteas captain had amassed 1960 runs in 61 matches at Chinnaswamy, while Gambhir’s performance has been below par at the ground with just 302 runs in 11 matches.

Although in the same show, Gambhir also made it clear that he considers Suresh Raina a way better performer than RCB star, and to support his statement emphasised on four coveted trophies that ‘Mr IPL’ won.

Twitter reactions: Jason Roy, bowlers steer England to series-clinching win over Bangladesh

England beat Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI

An incredible hundred from explosive opener Jason Roy and an all-round effort from Sam Curran propelled England to dominating win in the second ODI at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.

Apart from Roy and Curran, the likes of Jos Buttler, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali provided valuable contributions at different stages of the game as the English side secured the series (2-0) with one game to spare.

Put in to bat first, the tourists posted 326/7 on the board in 50 overs. Roy smashed 132 from 128 deliveries, including 18 fours and a six. Similarly, Buttler also scored 76 off 64 balls with the help of five fours and a couple of maximums.

In response, the hosts got bundled out for 194, losing the contest by 132 runs. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 58 off 69 balls. Curran and Rashid were the pick of the bowlers for England, picking 4 wickets each. While Curran bagged a 4-fer by conceding 29 in 6.4 overs, Rashid claimed 4 scalps for 45 in his quota of 10 overs.

“Fantastic series win. Bangladesh are a formidable team at home, we are delighted to win. I thought Jason Roy lead the way, and guys chipped in around him. These conditions are what we’ll find the hardest as a team, but the intensity and application we showed was really good to see. We’ve talked a lot about adapting to conditions, when we turn up at Chittagong we’ll try to adjust as quickly and it helps when lots of guys in the dressing room are putting their hand up and performing when needed,” said the winning captain, Buttler, at the post-match presentation.

IND vs AUS, 2023: Sunil Gavaskar slams Rohit Sharma for bringing Ravichandran Ashwin late into the attack

Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin and Sunil Gavaskar

After being bundled out for 109 in their first innings of the ongoing third Test at Indore’s Holkar Stadium, India returned to bowl and restricted Australia to 197 on Day 2 of the match.

Resuming their play on Thursday (March 2), Australia managed to secure only 88 runs lead over India. It was Ravindra Jadeja who shined with the ball for the hosts and picked up four wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav also grabbed three scalps each for their team. However, Ashwin was bought very late into the attack by Rohit Sharma.

At the start of Day 2, Rohit went with Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja and later replaced Siraj with Axar Patel., while Ashwin was kept waiting by the Indian skipper. The Tamil Nadu off-spinner was given the ball only a few minutes before the drinks break. Soon after coming into the attack, he broke the dangerous-looking partnership of Peter Handscomb and Cameron Green in his very next over.

India legend Sunil Gavaskar didn’t seem to like Rohit’s decision and questioned why a quality bowler like Ashwin was introduced so late. He also criticised the match-up ploy of Rohit.

“I don’t understand this too much focus on the match-up thing. Because there were two right-handers in the crease, Ashwin wasn’t brought on till the last over before the drinks break. Because of those match-ups, the two left-armers bowled, then what happened? Who gets the breakthrough? Ravichandran Ashwin. He gets the wicket of Handscomb. He is a top player, he is going to get wickets, doesn’t matter if it’s a right-hander or a left-hander. He is a great bowler. Ashwin has 450-plus wickets and he should have been given the ball a lot earlier,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports in the post-lunch session,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.

Notably, Ashwin is the second-highest wicket-taker for India in the ongoing BGT 2023 and is currently the world’s no. 1 ranked Test bowler.

Twitter reactions: Anrich Nortje’s 5-fer gives South Africa control on a 16-wicket day in Centurion Test

Anrich Nortje puts South Africa on top

A dominating spell from pacer Anrich Nortje saw South Africa gain a big lead in the first innings on an exciting second day of the ongoing first Test against West Indies at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The tourists, who were 169/3 at one stage, witnessed a huge collapse, with the team getting bundled out for 212, which helped the hosts take a massive 130-run lead.

Nortje was the chief architect behind West Indies’ collapse, taking five wickets for 36 to count his fourth five-wicket haul in the longest format. Nortje first dismissed Jermaine Blackwood (37) to end the crucial 61-run third-wicket partnership with Raymon Reifer. The right-arm pacer then picked up four more wickets in his three successive overs to further derail the Windies’ batting.

Like the Proteas’ pace battery, the West Indies bowlers also fared in the second innings, reducing South Africa to 49/4 at stumps on Day 2. The lead of the hosts now stands at 179 on a pitch that is quite challenging, as 16 wickets fell on the second day.

Earlier in the day, South Africa resumed their first innings at 314/8 but could only manage to add just 28 more runs to their overnight score. Marco Jansen provided some late contributions with an unbeaten 43-ball 23, including 4 boundaries.

“I really enjoyed it, it was so much fun. Just tried to stick to our lengths and execute our plans. Tried to build some pressure and take it from there. I think the rhythm is feeling good. Need to adjust every now and then. It’s just about finding that rhythm every time I bowl,” said Nortje after the end of the day’s play.

‘Dhoni mania was so big…’: Dinesh Karthik recalls the competition with veteran India stumper

MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik

One of the greatest wicketkeepers of all time, MS Dhoni, is a name that every cricket enthusiast is familiar with, but there was also a time when the Indian legend had to struggle to find a place in the team as there were quite a few other wicketkeeping options available for selection during that period.

Dinesh Karthik was among those who caught the eye of selectors before Dhoni and made his India debut three months earlier than the latter. Notably, the 37-year-old Tamil Nadu cricketer made his maiden appearance for India in an ODI on September 5, 2004. Meanwhile, Dhoni donned the national jersey for the first time on December 23 later that year.

Soon after Dhoni’s debut, Karthik became a second choice of the selectors as the Ranchi cricketer stunned everyone with his exceptional performance and cemented his spot in the team. Since then, Dhoni continued his reign and didn’t look back. He later became the captain of the Indian side across formats, further diminishing the chances of Karthik.

Talking about the competition with Dhoni in RCB Podcast, Karthik has now revealed that how Dhoni surpassed him with his exploits across formats. He also admitted that by the time he was recalled to the team, Dhoni had become a big and ‘special player’.

“I made my debut before him. We went together on an India A tour and from there I got picked to the Indian team. That was the first time I played a match together with him. I did so well that they picked me for the Indian team. From there, they went on another trip, there was a ODI tournament where he just blasted it there with boundaries and sixes. The world was still getting used to something like that, it was that sort of thing. People stood up and said there is nobody like him. They said he’s a special player,” said Karthik.

“Obviously I came to the Indian team, but by then the Dhoni mania was so big that you had to pick him. He then replaced me in all formats and he did very well. At the end of the day, it is all about taking opportunities,” he added.

WATCH: Rohit Sharma hilariously abuses Ravindra Jadeja on Day 1 of the Indore Test – IND vs AUS 2023

Rohit Sharma abuse Ravindra Jadeja

The first day of the third Test between India and Australia ended with the visitors taking the driving seat. After electing to bat first, hosts India tumbled like a pack of cards and could post just 109 runs on the scoreboard.

Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann picked up his maiden five-wicket haul for the Aussies.

In response, India required early wickets to remain competitive. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and captain Rohit Sharma utilized the DRS effectively to dismiss the Aussie opener Travis Head for 9. Nevertheless, they were less astute with their subsequent reviews, consuming two in rapid succession.

During the sixth over of Australia’s innings, Jadeja hit Usman Khawaja on the pads, prompting India to opt for a DRS review. However, the replays revealed that the ball had pitched outside leg and struck the batter outside the leg stump.

In the tenth over, Rohit opted for another review after Jadeja once again struck Khawaja on the pads. The replays indicated that the ball had pitched outside off and spun excessively to miss the leg stump.

Amid the DRS howlers, Rohit was seen abusing Jadeja but in a light-hearted manner. Using some cuss words in Hindi, he told the all-rounder: “Dekh ball kaha lag raha hai (See where the ball is hitting).”

Relive the moment here:

Australia were 156-4 at stumps of Day 1, and the other three wickets – Marnus Labuschagne, Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith – were also picked up by Jadeja.

Brief Scores: India 109 all out (Virat Kohli 22; Matthew Kuhnemann 5/16, Nathan Lyon 3/35) trail Australia 156-4 (Usman Khawaja 60, Marnus Labuschagne 31; Ravindra Jadeja 4/63) by 47 runs.
