T20 World Cup 2022: England vs New Zealand – Predicted XI, Pitch & Weather report

England vs New Zealand, Pitch and Weather report

England will lock horns with New Zealand in the 33rd match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at The Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday.

England have three points to their tally after registering a five-wicket win against Afghanistan and suffering a 5-run defeat versus Ireland via the DLS method before their high-octane clash against Australia was abandoned due to rain.

Similarly, the Black Caps have five points and are strong contenders for the semis berth. They have won against Australia and Sri Lanka, while their clash against Afghanistan was washed out.

Pitch and Weather report:

Despite the bouncy surface at this venue, the track was on the slow side during the match between Australia and Ireland, and the same pitch will be used on Tuesday, which means the spinners have their say in the contest. As per the forecast, there could be some rain in the morning, but the weather is expected to clear up later in the day.

Probable XIs:

England: Alex Hales, Jos Buttler, David Malan, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

New Zealand: Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner/Mark Chapman, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

Recent form:

England: LWWWW(Last five completed matches, most recent first)
New Zealand: WWLLW

What they said:

“It’s must-win games, and this is the positions that you want to be in to have an opportunity to win a World Cup,” said England’s assistant coach Paul Collingwood ahead of the match.

“You always expect from England, they come out very hot. we need to come out with our own brand of aggressive play, and nothing needs to change too much,” said New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson.

T20 World Cup 2022: Australia vs Ireland – Probable XI, Pitch & Weather report

Australia vs Ireland

Australia will take on Ireland in the 31st match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Gabba in Brisbane on Monday, October 31.

The Irish side is currently placed above the defending champions in the points table. Australia are at No. 4 due to their inferior net run rate (NRR) though both teams have equal points.

Ireland will probably feel more frustrated by the washout at the MCG because after beating England, they would have been confident of pushing hard for another two points against Afghanistan. On the other hand, Australia have to win both their remaining matches – against Ireland and Afghanistan – to reach the final four as they faced a big defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the opening game of Super 12s.

Pitch and Weather report

The surface at the Gabba offers good pace and carry; therefore, pacers enjoy bowling here. It is also a terrific place to bat and pile a good total on the board.

There are small chances of rain, too late in the day.

Probable XI

Australia: Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Mitch Marsh/Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

Ireland: Paul Stirling, Andy Balbirnie (c), Lorcan Tucker (wk), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Fionn Hand, Barry McCarthy, Josh Little

Current form

  • Australia: WLLLW (last five matches, most recent first)
  • Ireland: WLWWL

Captain’s corner

“We have seen how damaging Ireland can be if you give them a sniff in a game. They have got some seriously talented players and some experience, especially at the top of the order. They are never a team you can take lightly. If the wicket has got anything in it they have got very good bowlers to maximise that as well,” said Australia skipper Aaron Finch in the pre-match presser.

T20 World Cup 2022: Rain Pain At MCG Again; Afghanistan, Ireland Settle For One Point Each

Afghanistan's match against Ireland in the T20 World Cup was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to incessant rain at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.

T20 World Cup 2022: England vs Australia – Probable XI, Pitch & Weather report

England vs Australia, Pitch and Weather report

Cricket’s oldest rivals, England and Australia will meet in a highly-anticipated clash in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.

Both sides were overwhelming favourites to finish first, but a few games into the Super 12 stage has put them on the road of uncertainty. Both teams have played two matches where they have lost one, respectively. The advantage that England have is their net run rate (NRR) which is +0.239, while Australia have a negative NRR of -1.555.

Pitch and Weather report:

Seamers have enjoyed a lot of success so far at this venue. Since both sides have quality pace attacks, fans can expect a cracker of a game unless the rain plays a spoilsport. Notably, the MCG has already witnessed a washout and rain is yet again expected at the time of the match.

Probable XIs:

England: Jos Buttler (C & WK), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

Australia: Aaron Finch (C), David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade (WK), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

Recent form:

Australia: WLLLW (last five completed T20Is, most recent first)
England: LWWWW

What they said:

“The group is wide open because any team can win on any day. That’s the thing about T20; you can’t take anything for granted in a game. Afghanistan, they’re a really skillful, talented side. Ireland have got the skills there. Sri Lanka on a day can beat anyone as well. So, I think the group was always going to be wide open, and it’s a tough group to get through, no doubt,” said Australian skipper Aaron Finch after Ireland’s win over England.

“I thought his bowling has been a real bonus for us. I think a lot of people probably underestimate his bowling coming into this tournament. And he’s been key for us. I think he’s bowled some big overs particularly in the power play. With the bat, he hasn’t come off yet. But his career would suggest that at some point someone’s going to pay a price and hopefully that’s Australia in a day’s time,” said England head coach Matthew Mott on all-rounder Ben Stokes.

T20 World Cup 2022: Afghanistan vs Ireland – Probable XI, Pitch & Weather report

Afghanistan vs Ireland

Afghanistan will take on Ireland in the 25th match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne on Friday, October 28.

The Afghans will look to get a victory under their belt when they take on a high-flying Ireland, fresh off a win against World No. 2 England in their last match. Afghanistan batters, specifically, will be eyeing to return to form after getting unravelled by England’s left-arm seamer Sam Curran in their first match. Ireland, meanwhile, will hope to continue their all-round form, which helped them defeat England on Wednesday.

Pitch and Weather report

The MCG surface helps the seamers in early part of the innings and historically favours the team batting second, with 10 out of 16 T20I matches won by chasing.

Following the thunderstorm that halted England’s chase against Ireland and called-off Afghanistan’s game against New Zealand, 80% chances of rain are there in Melbourne from 8 am (local time) till 8 pm on Friday.

Predicted XI:

Afghanistan – Hazratullah Zazai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Usman Ghani, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi (c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Fareed Ahmed, Fazalhaq Farooqi

Ireland – Andrew Balbirnie (c), Paul Stirling, Lorcan Tucker, Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Fionn Hand, Joshua Little

Recent form

  • Afghanistan: LLLLW (last five completed matches, most recent result first)
  • Ireland: WLWWL

Who said what:

“I’ve always said cricket isn’t a big game in Ireland. We’re the flag bearers, and we want to make it possible. But it’s certainly an absolute pleasure to play here, to lead the first Irish team to ever play here. And we get to play here on Friday, which is such a thrill,” said the Irish captain Andrew Balbirnie ahead of the match.

“The conditions are totally different from the Asian condition. So, everyone is very excited. And the way I feel yesterday, some of the boys were really upset because of the rain. So that means, that’s showing that our players want to play cricket. And teams like Afghanistan and Ireland, they deserve to play more matches against the top nations,” said Raees Ahmadzai, Afghanistan’s assistant coach, on playing conditions in Australia.

New Zealand vs Afghanistan, Pitch and Weather report

The Black Caps have started the tournament in grand style, beating the hosts and defending champions Australia in their opening match. Afghanistan, on the other hand, were beaten by England in their campaign opener.

Pitch and Weather report:

Arch rivals India and Pakistan played out a thriller at this venue a few days back, and the conditions were in favour of bowlers with plenty of movement. Fans could see a similar display in this game as well.

There are chances of thunderstorm during the afternoon and in the evening but no hints of a possible washout.

Probable XIs:

New Zealand: Devon Conway (wk), Finn Allen, Kane Williamson (c), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

Afghanistan: Hazratullah Zazai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Usman Ghani, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi (c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad Malik

Yeah, we all see the videos and everything, and also we discuss all these things,” said Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi ahead of the game.

“I’ve only played a handful of games really at the ‘G, but yeah, an amazing stadium. Obviously, to get out there and be on the World Cup stage is going to be pretty special as well,” said New Zealand pacer Trent Boult.

BCCI shortlists the host cities for IPL 2023 Auction; last date to submit list of retained players

IPL auction

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set the ball rolling for next edition of IPL and the mini-auction will take place in the third week of December.

Istanbul and Bengaluru have been shortlisted as the host cities for the mini-auction. Previously, all the IPL auctions happened in India only because some franchises felt that conducting the event abroad would be expensive. However, the recent increase in teams’ revenue and sale of media rights has prompted the IPL Governing Council to consider conducting the auction overseas.

Approximately 650 players are expected to go under the hammer in the bidding process.

It is also learnt that franchises have been asked to submit their list of retained players by November 15. Most teams are likely to keep 15 players and release the rest for them before entering the auction with at least INR 10 crore in their kitty, if not more.

The 2022 season was the first one since 2011 that saw ten teams with Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) making their IPL debut. The 2023 season which will be the sixteenth edition of the world’s biggest T20 league is expected to begin in the last week of March. The inaugural edition of the Women’s IPL is also set to take place in March-April next year.

Where to watch IPL 2023 auction in India?

T20 World Cup 2022: England vs Ireland – Playing XI, Pitch & Weather report

England vs Ireland

England and Ireland will square off against each other in the 20th Match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne on Wednesday, October 26.

England wobbled in their opening match against Afghanistan, where they were 65 for 3 in the 11th over chasing a paltry 113 before winning by five wickets. Meanwhile, Ireland – who reached the Super 12 stage for just the second time in their history of T20 World Cups by eliminating West Indies with a thumping nine-wicket victory, were outplayed by Sri Lanka in their first Super 12 fixture at Bellerive Oval, Hobart.

Pitch and Weather report

The pitch out in Melbourne favours the batters as well as the bowlers. The pacers get a good amount of swing in the initial few overs, so the batters need to spend some time in the middle before playing big shots.

There could be rain interruptions during the game but nothing alarming as of yet that suggests a washout.

Playing XI

England – Jos Buttler (c & wk), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

Ireland – Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie (c), Lorcan Tucker (wk), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Fionn Hand, Barry McCarthy, Joshua Little

Current form

  • England: WWWWW (last five completed matches, most recent first)
  • Ireland: LWWLW

Ireland coach Heinrich Malan on his side’s preparation to face Mark Wood: “I think we all know it’s not only him in this tournament that bowls at a rapid pace. There’s quite a few guys that can bowl nice and quickly, and we haven’t necessarily faced that or we don’t necessarily prepare for that on a day-to-day basis, but that’s the challenge that’s in front of us, and again, as an international side we need to adapt. We need to be ahead of the game in terms of what’s coming towards us, and hopefully we can through our preparation and planning make sure we go out there and execute.”

T20 World Cup 2022: Australia vs Sri Lanka – Predicted XI, Pitch & Weather report

Australia vs Sri Lanka, Match Prediction

Hosts Australia will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the 19th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Tuesday, October 25.

The defending champions recently faced an embarrassing loss against Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in their opening Super 12 fixture. While the Islanders registered a dominating win over Ireland in their first Super 12 clash.

Australia will be hoping to get back to winning ways in order to stay alive in the tournament. Conversely, the Asia Cup winners will be looking for another victory to strengthen their chances of going further in the global competition.

Weather conditions:

Fans can expect a full 40-overs contest as there is a little chance of rain in Perth.

Pitch report:

The team winning the toss might opt to bat first at this venue as it offers decent support to the batters. The bounce in the pitch favours the spinners as well.

Probable XIs:

Australia: David Warner, Aaron Finch(captain), Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade(wk), Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa

Sri Lanka: Kusal Mendis (wk), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Ashen Bandara, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (captain), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Binura Fernando, Lahiru Kumara

Current form :

  • Australia: LLLWW (last five completed matches; most recent first)
  • Sri Lanka: WWWLW

*W – Win; L – Loss

What they said:

“I know for a fact that it won’t be spinning as much as it was over there (in Sri Lanka), so that’s a plus in itself. I think, in general, our team and the way we play, we play spin very well, certainly in Australian conditions. I’m looking forward to that challenge, but we know they’re two world-class bowlers. And Sri Lanka are a very dangerous side, so we’ll have to get our matchups right and make sure that we’re on,” said Australia batter Mitchell Marsh ahead of the match against the Lankans.

“Death bowling is a key area, the start with the bat is very important, and that’s where we can take positives going ahead,” Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka had said after Ireland’s game.

West Indies Coach Phil Simmons Resigns After T20 World Cup Exit

West Indies head coach Phil Simmons will leave his post after the upcoming Test series with Australia in the wake of the team's disastrous Twenty20 World Cup campaign, Cricket West Indies said Monday.

Phil Simmons steps down as West indies coach after team’s early exit at T20 World Cup 2022

Phil Simmons

Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Tuesday announced that Phil Simmons has decided to step down as Head Coach of the West Indies Men’s team following their first-round exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Simmons will leave his job after the upcoming two-match Test series against Australia, CWI confirmed.

West Indies, the two-times champion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, were knocked out after losses to Scotland and Ireland, finishing bottom of the table in Group B.

In the do-or-die encounter for the Super-12 spot, the Windies could only post 146-5 on the board, a total Ireland chased down for the loss of one wicket.

“I acknowledge that it’s not just the team that is hurting but the proud nations we represent as well. It’s disappointing and heart wrenching but we just didn’t turn up. We weren’t good enough and we now have to watch a tournament play-out without our involvement. It’s unfathomable and for that I deeply apologise to our fans and followers,” Simmons said in a statement.

“From a personal perspective this is not a knee jerk reaction, but a move I have been considering for some time and now is the time to make public that I will step down as West Indies Head Coach at the end of the Test series against Australia. It is earlier than hoped for, but I will now focus my energies in Australia on continuing to build on the excellent progress the Test team has made. Of course, as the President has pointed out, we will also carry out the necessary review into our World Cup campaign.”

He added: “I must say I have enjoyed aspects of the unique challenge that being West Indies Head Coach provides and the unwavering support of my Management Team. There remain some exceptional individuals within CWI who I firmly believe will continue to work in the best interests of West Indies cricket.”

Simmons was at the helm in 2016 when the Men in Maroon won their second T20 World Cup title defeating England in the final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

T20 World Cup: Pakistan cricket fraternity reacts to last-ball defeat against Virat Kohli-inspired India

Virat Kohli vs Pakistan

Pakistan faced a 4-wicket defeat against India in a nail-bitting thriller at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, October 24.

Put in to bat first, Pakistan posted a competitive 159-8 in their stipulated overs, thanks to Shan Masood’s unbeaten 52 off 42 balls and Iftikhar Ahmed’s 34-ball 51. Hardik Pandya (3/30) and Arshdeep Singh (3/32) were the pick of the bowlers for India, scalping three wickets each. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/22) and Mohammad Shami (1/25) also bowled economically and returned with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 160 to victory, the Men in Blue crossed the finished line on the final delivery of the match. At one stage, India were struggling at 31-4 but Virat Kohli and Hardik stitched a 113-run partnership for the fifth wicket to keep their team’s hopes alive.

India needed 48 runs off the last three overs, but Kohli didn’t lose his composure and smashed the Pakistani bowlers to all parts of the ground, powering his team on the brink of victory.

In the last over, India lost the wickets of Hardik and Dinesh Karthik on the first and fifth ball, respectively. But then Mohammad Nawaz ended up bowling a wide which tied the game while Ravichandran Ashwin hit the last ball for a boundary to clinch the game for the 2007 T20 World Cup champions.

Virat stayed unbroken on 82 off 53 balls (6 fours and 4 sixes) and his unthinkable knock broke the heart of several Pakistan fans. However, he was appreciated for his match-winning prowess by the Pakistan cricket fraternity on Twitter.

Captain’s corner:

“If the situation demands that it’s a shorter game, we will be ready for that, as well. A lot of the guys have played such kinds of games before, and they know how to manage themselves in a situation like that where you are getting ready for a 40-over game and then suddenly it’s a 20-over game for both sides, 10 overs each or 5 overs each. Luckily, we played one game in India against Australia which was an 8-over game.” – India captain Rohit Sharma believes his team is ready for any weather-enforced contingencies.

“He’s played here and he knows the conditions here, it’s his home ground in the Big Bash League. So he’s passed on quite a bit of information to the bowlers, and to the batters too. The way he’s improved as a bowler, the way he’s leading. He didn’t let us feel the pinch of Shaheen’s absence. And he’ll be a big help” – Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is glad about receiving MCG intel from  Haris Rauf.

T20 World Cup 2022: Australia vs New Zealand – Predicted XI, Pitch & Weather report

Rain predictions during Australia vs New Zealand encounter at the T20 World Cup

In the first match of the Super 12 stage at ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, defending champion Australia will take on their Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday (October 22).

The Black Caps will look to take revenge for their defeat in the final of last year’s T20 World Cup and make a positive start in this edition, but it won’t be easy as they don’t have an impressive record in Australia.

On the other hand, the Aussies would like to live up to their reputation of being the title holders and get their campaign off to a flying start.

Weather conditions

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecasted 90% chances of rain in Sydney with 3 to 6mm. “Partly cloudy. Very high (90%) chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon and evening. The chance of a thunderstorm,” it stated in a weather report.

A minimum of five overs is required to get a result for the match and there are no reserve days during the group stages.

Pitch report

The pitch was under cover for most of Friday so Aussie skipper Aaron Finch only got a brief look at it. He said it was on the drier side.

Probable XIs

Australia – David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

New Zealand – Devon Conway (wk), Finn Allen, Kane Williamson (c), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Ish Sodhi.

ICC T20 World Cup: Here's How The Super 12 Groups Look After The End Of First Round

T20 World Cup: The action in the Super12 stage begins from Saturday. India begin their campaign in Group 2 with a clash against arch rivals Pakistan on Sunday.

Eoin Morgan, Nasser Hussain predict the top run-scorer and wicket-taker in T20 World Cup 2022

Eoin Morgan, Nasser Hussain name top run-getter and wicket-taker of T20 World Cup 2022

The Super 12 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 will start on October 22, with hosts Australia taking on Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Round 1 of the multi-team tournament finished on Friday, with Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Ireland and Zimbabwe qualifying for the Super 12s.

Ahead of the second stage, former England cricketers Eoin Morgan and Nasser Hussain have predicted the leading run-getters and wicket-takers of the 20-over showpiece event.

Morgan went with his former teammate and current England white-ball captain Jos Butler as the top run-scorer in the T20 World Cup 2022. Morgan reckoned Buttler has evolved his game quite significantly and bats on a completely different level.

“I’m going for Jos. Even when I was still playing, I watched him play shots that made me think I should retire because I can’t do that. He is on a different level with how hard he hits the ball and how he is consistently trying to evolve his game,” said Morgan, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Hussian also echoed Morgan’s statement and picked Buttler as his choice. The former England skipper, however, felt the likes of KL Rahul, Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Rizwan are other candidates who can rock the charts in the multi-team event.

“It is going to have to be someone at the top of the order whose team do well, and so I would go with Buttler, but there are so many candidates. KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Babar Azam, Mohammed Rizwan. Suryakumar Yadav is a fantastic player, but he will come in at No 4 for India, after Rohit, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, so you wonder how many balls he will face,” said Hussain.

On the bowling front, Morgan mentioned he initially picked Adil Rashid and Rashid Khan, but the conditions in Australia will favour the pacers, and hence he went for Mark Wood – who could be the leading wicket-taker in the global competition.

“I was initially going to go for a spinner and say Adil Rashid or Rashid Khan, but the weather could negate the spin aspect a touch. I think the ball will really skid on, and so I am going to say a seamer. There are about five you could pick, but I will go for Mark Wood,” explained Morgan.

On the other hand, Hussain opined that picking the top wicket-taker was a tough choice, but he thinks one who bowls at the death can potentially end up at the top. The cricketer-turned-commentator feels that Mitchell Starc has all the ability to finish the tournament as the leading wicket-taker.

“That is a slightly harder choice. You want someone who bowls at the death, so I would look towards Mitchell Starc or Bhuvneshwar Kumar. I will go with Starc as he could also get wickets up front and then come back at the end with his slower balls and yorkers,” added Hussain.

England Pacer Reece Topley Ruled Out Of T20 World Cup, Mills Named As Replacement

The 28-year-old left-armer rolled his left ankle during a fielding drill in Brisbane on Monday ahead of England's final warm-up match against Pakistan.

"Can Impact Pakistan's Visit To India For The World Cup": PCB Responds To Jay Shah's Asia Cup In Neutral Venue Comment

In it's statement PCB mentioned that it was "surprised and disappointed" at the comments made by Mr Shah and that such a step could impact Pakistan's participation in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India in 2023.

‘Not a perfect replacement of Jasprit Bumrah’: Suresh Raina on Mohammed Shami – T20 World Cup 2022

Suresh Raina on Mohammed Shami

Senior Indian pacer Mohammed Shami recently grabbed headlines with his brilliant last over during India’s narrow six-run win over Australia in their warm-up game at The Gabba on Monday (October 17).

Notably, Shami, who was picked into the Indian team as a replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah, didn’t get to bowl for the first 19 overs. The right-arm seamer was given the task of delivering the final over, and he returned with 1-0-4-3.

There is no doubt that in the absence of Bumrah, Shami will lead the attack in India’s opening fixture against arch-rivals Pakistan at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23. The experienced speedster has an arduous task, having last played a T20I during the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup.

While all eyes will be on Shami ahead of the mouth-watering clash, former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina has opined that Shami isn’t a perfect replacement for Bumrah because players like him are extremely rare.

“I would not call him a perfect replacement because you cannot replace Jasprit Bumrah or Ravindra Jadeja. They have played consistently for India, and they have given performances,” Raina told NDTV.

However, Raina was quick to add that among the available options, i.e. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur, Shami was the best option.

“But the best option you had, you have selected him. Shami has given good performances, he has been in good form. BCCI have done really well in sending the team to Australia 15 days prior to the tournament. The grounds are big, overall I think the preparation has been nice. We will need to play fearless cricket and show good intent,” added Raina.

India squad for T20 World Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma (captain), KL Rahul (vc), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Md Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh

“It’s always special playing against them”: Rishabh Pant eager to take on Pakistan at T20 World Cup

Rishabh Pant

India will lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in their first match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, October 23.

A crowd of more than 1,00,000 people are set to witness the battle between two super-powers of Asian cricket in Melbourne.

Ahead of the mouth-watering clash, Team India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has shared his experience of taking on Pakistan at the T20 World Cup.

“It’s always special playing against Pakistan because there is a special hype around that match as always,” Pant said in his recent interview with ICC.

“There are so much emotions involved, not only for us, but the fans and everyone.

“It’s a different kind of feeling, a different kind of ambience when you go on to the field and when you take on the field, you see people cheering here and there.

“It’s a different atmosphere and when we were singing our national anthem, I actually get goosebumps,” the rising star of Indian cricket added.

Though India faced a heavy 10-wicket defeat from Pakistan in their last meeting at the 2020 T20 World Cup in Dubai, Pant still has some fond memories of the game. The southpaw had stitched a 53-run partnership with then-skipper Virat Kohli and scored a quickfire 39 while batting first.

“I fondly remember that I smacked Hasan Ali for two sixes in the same over,” Pant recalled.

“We were just trying to get the run rate up because we lost early wickets and we staged a partnership – me and Virat.

“We were increasing the run rate and I smacked him for two sixes with one hand… my special shot.”

Pant believes that he will get a chance to display his camaraderie with Kohli in the ongoing World Cup.

“He (Kohli) can actually teach you how to go through situations, which might help you in your cricket journey going forward, so it is nice batting with him as always,” Pant added further.

“It’s good to have someone with a lot of experience batting with you because he can take you through how to take the game on and how to maintain that run-a-ball pressure kind of thing.”

Well, Pant had to compete for a place in India’s final XI as the team management is eyeing Dinesh Karthik to be the finisher the Men in Blue needs and the first-choice wicket-keeper.

England seamer Reece Topley ruled out of T20 World Cup 2022; replacement announced

Reece Topley ruled out of T20 World Cup

In a major setback to England’s T20 World Cup campaign, fast bowler Reece Topley has been ruled out of the multi-team tournament after injuring his ankle during a practice session in Perth.

Topley rolled his left ankle during a fielding drill in Brisbane ahead of England’s final warm-up game against Pakistan on Monday, October 17.

Topley was then sent for assessment, and a call was expected to be taken ahead of his side’s opening encounter against Afghanistan on Saturday, October 22. The scan results cleared doubts, confirming the left-arm seamer is unfit for participation in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Tymal Mills , who is in the travelling reserves of England squad along with Richard Gleeson, will replace Topley in the final 15.

Notably, Mills had performed well at last year’s Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, with seven wickets in four games. His participation in that tournament was ended by a thigh injury, and incidentally, Topley was the one who replaced him in the 15-member squad. Further, the left-armer has ample bowling experience of playing in Australian conditions as he has been a part of Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL).

England’s revised squad for T20 World Cup 2022:

Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Alex Hales, Tymal Mills.

Pat Cummins named Australia’s ODI captain as David Warner’s life-ban continues

David Warner, Pat Cummins

Cricket Australia on Tuesday confirmed that fast bowler Pat Cummins would take charge of their men’s one-day team, making him the 27th ODI captain. Cummins will replace Aaron Finch, who recently announced his retirement from 50-overs cricket.

Opening batter David Warner was not eligible for the role due to his lifetime ban from leadership positions following the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town.

It was recently reported that Cricket Australia is looking to make a change in its code of conduct which would make the southpaw eligible for captaincy, but no such decision was made in the recent meeting.

Meanwhile, Cummins’ appointment was made despite concerns over his workload, with the 29-year-old being rested from limited-overs games in recent years.

The selectors have made a call thinking of next year’s ODI World Cup, giving Cummins leadership duties for a full year before the tournament.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed playing under Finchy and have learnt an enormous amount from his leadership. They are significant shoes to fill although we are extremely fortunate to have a one-day squad with a huge amount of experience,” Cummins was quoted as saying in a Cricket Australia media release.

Commenting on the appointment, the Chairman of Selectors George Bailey said: “Pat has done an excellent job since taking on the captaincy of the Test side and we look forward to him leading the one-day team to the 2023 World Cup in India.”

Australia will lock horns with England in a three-match ODI series soon after the ongoing T20 World Cup. They will next play host to South Africa in January next year.

T20 World Cup 2022: Namibia vs Netherlands – Pitch report, Probable XI and Match Prediction

Namibia vs Netherlands, Match Prediction

Namibia will lock horns with Netherlands in the fifth match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 at Simonds Stadium in Geelong on Tuesday, October 18.

Both teams have opened their account with victories in their first matches. Namibia pulled off a big upset in the tournament opener by defeating Sri Lanka.

Similarly, in the second match, Netherlands registered a thrilling win over United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Pitch report:

The previous two matches played in Geelong showed that the track offers a fair bit of assistance for seamers, especially in the initial stages of the match. At the same time, batters struggled to accelerate the run rate and clear the long boundaries at this venue. Team winning the toss might opt to bowl first.

Probable XIs:

Namibia: Michael van Lingen, Divan la Cock, Stephan Baard, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, David Wiese, Gerhard Erasmus (c), Jan Frylinck, JJ Smit, Zane Green (wk), Bernard Scholtz, Ben Shikongo

The seamer – not amongst wickets on turning conditions – adjusted her pace and finished with three wickets for five runs as Sri Lanka were reduced to 16-5 in 5.5 overs. From thereon, they could not recover and put on 65-9 in their stipulated 20 overs.

In reply, India lost quick wickets of Shafali Verma (5) and Jemimah Rodrigues (2). However, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana smashed an unbeaten 25-ball 51 and took her side over the finish line in 8.3 overs. With the victory, India also sealed their seventh Women’s Asia Cup title.

While Jemimah finished as the leading run-scorer, Deepti grabbed the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award for her all-round show.

After lifting the trophy, the Indian players danced their hearts out to celebrate the victory.

Meanwhile, in a video that is going viral on social media, Jemimah can be seen dancing and rolling on the ground as her teammates burst out into celebration. Soon Jemimah’s party was cut short by Smriti as she threw some pieces of coloured ribbon on her face.

Here’s the video:

Jemimah and Smriti will now return to action after joining their respective clubs in the ongoing eight edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia.

AUS vs ENG – WATCH: Glenn Maxwell’s jaw-dropping effort to save a certain boundary in 3rd T20I

Glenn Maxwell saves a certain boundary in 3rd T20I

Australia survived a possible whitewash as the third and final T20I against England was abandoned due to consistent rain interruptions during the contest at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Friday. The game was reduced to 12 overs per side, where the tourists managed to post 112/2 after being asked to bat first. In response, the hosts lost three wickets in 3.5 overs at 30 before the rain arrived again, forcing match officials to abandon the game

While the rain spoiled the party, there were quite a few moments in the match which grabbed everyone’s attention. One such incident was a mind-boggling fielding effort from Glenn Maxwell in the penultimate over of England’s innings.

It all happened on the fifth delivery of the 11th over, bowled by pacer Josh Hazlewood when Jos Buttler timed the ball perfectly towards the cover region. Hazlewood delivered full and wide of off-stump; Buttler reached out and scythed the drive through extra cover. For a moment, it looked like the white leather would easily beat Maxwell, who was sprinting towards the ball. But the Victorian slid at the right time and did splendidly well to pluck it with his right hand, stopping a certain boundary.

Here is the video:

“It was, there was quite a bit of rain yesterday and today as well, and we would have been happier with a full game. Credit to England, they outplayed us in all three games, but I thought the fielding was better on a slightly greasy surface tonight. We will take a couple of days off, recharge, enjoy each other’s company and start our preparations for the World Cup,” said Australia skipper Aaron Finch after the match.
